The Repair Shop of Hearts

A Sufi Dialogue صوفیانہ مکالمہ

Written by: The Nameless Dervish

Introduction:
One day, as I wandered through the streets of the city, my gaze stopped at an old shop's signboard. It read: "Healing and Repair of Hearts."
Drowning in curiosity, I stepped inside. There sat an old man on a wooden cot, his long white beard and radiant face exuding a mysterious glow. He smiled at me as if he knew the secrets of the universe.

The Dervish’s Smile:
As I kept reading the inscriptions on the walls, the old man softly said:
"Yes, my child! I mend hearts and break them too. Come, sit beside me."
He took my hand, placed his ear on my chest, and after a moment of silence, spoke:
“There is unrest in your heartbeat. Do not worry; every ailment of the heart has a cure. Look at the different types of hearts!”

The Many Types of Hearts:
Like flipping through pages of an unseen book, he began:

Wounded hearts, that laugh while hiding their pain.

Broken hearts, shattered by the hands of time.

Torn hearts, sacrificed on the altar of false promises.

Gentle hearts, blooming like fragrant flowers.

Darkened hearts, lost in the shadows of misguidance.

Burning hearts, set ablaze by love.

Grief-stricken hearts, flowing rivers of tears.

Hardened hearts, tougher than stone.

Generous hearts, eager to share.

“Glory be to the One who turns hearts as He wills.”

A Sufi Prescription:
I asked, "Baba Ji, I came with one worry, and you’ve unfolded a thousand!"
He smiled, like the moon laughing in the night sky, and said:

"Do not worry, my child. I have one remedy, tested by saints from Ibrahim ibn Adham to Sheikh Saadi. Take your pen and write:"

(The English version of all listed remedies, virtues, and warnings follows.)

Final Advice:
"Those who remain lost in the affairs of others end up abandoning their own hearts."

As I prepared to leave, he called out:
“My child! Recite the Durood. For the Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘When your sorrows become an ocean, send blessings upon me, and they will turn into islands of peace.’”

"The secret to heart’s healing is simple: Surrender yourself to Allah, and He will take care of the rest."
