Pentagon Strips Gen Mark Milley of Security Clearance and Protection

Trump Administration Moves Against Former Top Military Commander

The Pentagon has revoked the security detail and clearance of retired General Mark Milley, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, following orders from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The move comes as part of the Trump administration's effort to hold officials accountable for alleged undermining of the chain of command.

Gen Milley, who served under Trump during his first term but later criticized him, was accused of treason by the former president for making calls to his Chinese counterpart in 2021. Trump has also revoked security protections for other former officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The Department of Defense's Office of Inspector General has been directed to investigate Milley’s conduct, while a portrait of him was removed from the Pentagon following Trump’s second inauguration. The administration's decision highlights growing tensions between Trump and former officials who opposed him.
