1. Israeli Female Soldier Freed
An Israeli female soldier, Agam Berger, who was held captive in Gaza, has been released as part of a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas. Berger was freed on Thursday from the Jabalia refugee camp, which has suffered repeated Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began in October 2023.
2. More Prisoners to Be Released
In addition to Berger, seven more individuals, including five Thai nationals, are set to be released today. The exchange will take place at various locations across Gaza, including outside the former house of Hamas political leader Yahya Sinwar in Khan Younis.
3. Palestinian Prisoners to Be Freed
In return, Israel is expected to release 110 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails later today.
4. Crowd Gathered and Security Measures
According to Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum, thousands of civilians—including women, children, and the elderly—have gathered at the release site in Khan Younis. Fighters from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad are also present to oversee and organize the exchange.
5. More Exchanges Expected Under the Agreement
Last week, Hamas released four Israeli female soldiers, while Israel freed 200 Palestinian prisoners as part of the ongoing agreement. This ceasefire deal is seen as part of efforts to halt the 15-month-long war in Gaza
